About Breathe Better Guide

We believe everyone deserves to breathe clean air at home — and we're here to help you make that happen, one evidence-based decision at a time.

Our Story

Breathe Better Guide was founded in 2026 to address a persistent problem: the air purifier market is confusing and full of misleading claims. Walk into any store or browse Amazon, and you're bombarded with identical-looking products making identical promises — "HEPA-type," "covers 1,500 square feet," "hospital-grade." Most of it is marketing. Very little of it helps you make a good decision.

We set out to build the resource we wished we'd had: a single, trustworthy source that explains what actually matters, cites real research, and recommends products based on objective data rather than which brand pays the highest affiliate commission.

Our Team

Our content is researched and written by a team with backgrounds in environmental science, public health, and consumer product testing. Every article undergoes at least two rounds of review before publication: one for factual accuracy (checking every cited study, CADR rating, and specification) and one for clarity (making sure the information is actually useful to someone trying to make a purchase decision).

We consult with indoor air quality professionals and reference standards from the EPA, WHO, ASHRAE, and the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). Our product testing methodology is based on AHAM's ANSI/AHAM AC-1 standard for measuring CADR.

How We Research and Write

Every article on this site is built on three pillars:

  1. Peer-reviewed science. We cite studies from institutions like the EPA, WHO, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and peer-reviewed journals including Environmental Science & Technology, Indoor Air, and the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
  2. AHAM-certified performance data. When we report CADR ratings, noise levels, or energy consumption, we use data from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers' independent testing program — not manufacturer marketing claims.
  3. Transparent methodology. We explain how we reach every conclusion. If we're comparing products, you'll see the criteria. If we're citing a study, you'll get the journal name and year.

How We Make Money

Breathe Better Guide is reader-supported. When you purchase products through links on our site, we may earn a commission from retailers including Amazon, at no additional cost to you. We also display advertising through Google AdSense.

These commissions and ad revenue fund our research, writing, and site maintenance. They never influence our recommendations. Our editorial team operates independently from revenue considerations — writers and editors are not compensated based on which products readers purchase.

Medical Disclaimer

Breathe Better Guide provides educational information about indoor air quality and air purification products. We are not medical professionals, and nothing on this site constitutes medical advice.

Information about health conditions such as asthma, COPD, allergies, and chemical sensitivity is provided for educational context only. If you have a medical condition, consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your indoor environment or treatment plan. Air purifiers are complementary tools — they are not replacements for prescribed medications, medical devices (such as CPAP machines), or professional medical care.

Product recommendations related to health conditions (e.g., "best air purifier for asthma") are based on filtration performance data and independent testing, not on clinical outcomes, unless a specific peer-reviewed study is cited.
